LiFePO4 charger

Since I really like using LiFePO4 AA and AAA batteries in some of my projects, I finally gave in and built a dedicated charger for them. Previously I used a lab power supply to mimic the constant current/constant voltage charging curve, which worked also fine. But after seeing Patrick Van Oosterwijck nifty LiFePO4wered/USB™, I thought it would be a bit more convenient to charge these batteries using USB. [ ]

Solar Charger Circuit Project Using Transistors

This is a simple solar charger circuit project can be designed using few external electronic parts . This simple solar charger circuit is capable of handling charge currents of up to 1A. Alternate component values are given in the figure for lower current applications. The only adjustment is the voltage trip point when the current is shunted through the transistor and load resistor. This should be set with a fully charged battery. As the transistor and R3 have the entire panel’s output across them when the battery is fully charged, all of the current from the panel will be going through R3 and the Darlington transistor TIP112, so these must be well heat sunk. Adjust R1 for the trip point, usually 14.4 V – 15 V for a 12 V SLA or a 12 V Ni-Cd battery.

Simple L200 Charger

This circuit came about as the result of an urgent need for a NiMH battery charger . No suitable dedicated IC being immediately to hand, the author pressed an L200 regulator and a 4.7 kΩ NTC thermistor into service. Those components were enough to form the basis of a charger with a cut-of f condition based on cell temperature rise rather than relying on the more common negative delta-V detection. The circuit uses the L200 with the thermistor in the feedback loop. When ‘cold’ the output volt age of the regulator is about 1.55 V per cell; when ‘warm’, at a cell temperature of about 35 °C to 40 °C, the out-put voltage is about 1.45 V per cell and the thermistor has a resistance of about 3.3 kΩ. This temperature sensing is enough to pre-vent the cells from being overcharged. P1 adjusts the charging voltage, and R2 limits the charge current to 320 mA. The IC is fitted with a small 20 K/W heatsink as it dissipates around 1.2 watts in use. The charger circuit can be connected permanently ...

Car Mobile Phone Charger Circuit

Cellphone battery charging process when we're done traveling is a big problem. Because when traveling source of power supply is generally difficult to find. If you turn on your phone then the battery continuously over time will run out within a period of five to six hours and eventually mobile phones unusable. Here is described a series of simple charger that will increase battery life two to three hours. In principle, the charger uses a series of Limited Voltage Current Source. Generally requires cellphone battery voltage 3.6 - 6 volts DC and currents 180-200 mA to perform the charging process. Cellphone battery usually consists of three NiCd battery cells, and each cell has a voltage of 1.2 volts potential. At the speed - average low flows required to charge mobile phone battery about - about 100mA. In this series there is a 12V voltage source consists of 8 regular battery cells (each cell 1.5 Volt) able to supply current at 1.8 A which is connected with output terminals. The cir...

Charging the sleek ZipCharge for a paltry 15 minutes will store enough oomph to give your iPod an extra 20 hours of playtime or your mobile phone an additional 10 hours of talk time. If you’re in a pant-trippingly awful rush, a 60 second charge whooshes in sufficient juice to power an iPod for 2 hours, a mobile phone for 8 hours, 2 Way Radio for 1 hour 20 mins or a camera for 80 photos. So how does it work? No...

A 12V Car Charger For ASUS Eee Notebook

The ASUS Eee is a fantastic ultra-portable notebook with almost everything required for geeks (and nothing that isn’t). Plus it features fantastic build quality and is very well priced. If you live in New Zealand you can get them from DSE; at the time of writing they are the exclusive supplier. I worked out it’s the same cost as importing one once you include all the duties and tax, plus you get the advantage of a proper NZ-style mains charger. Anyway, being so small I thought it would be nice to be able to carry this around in the car. Unfortunately I couldn’t find a car charger available anywhere at the time so I decided to tackle the problem myself. As a bonus this provides an opportunity for an external high-capacity battery. Commercial Equivalent: I thought at this stage it would be worth noting that a commercial car charger is now available for less than it cost me to build this from Expansys and is available in most countries (select your location on their site). It outputs ...

Automatic Battery Charger Circuit Diagram

Normally, chargers available in the market do not have any sort of control except for a ro-tary switch that can select different tap-pings on a rheostat, to vary the charging current. This type of control is not adequate because of the irregular fluctuations in the mains supply, rendering the control ineffective.  A simple circuit intended for automatic charging of lead-acid batteries is presented here. It is flexible enough to be used for large capacity inverter batteries. Only the rating of transformer and power transistor needs to be increased. Automatic Battery Charger Circuit Diagram   The circuit has been basically designed for a car battery (about 40 Ah rating), which could be used for lighting two 40W tube lights. The circuit includes Schmitt trigger relay driver, float charger, and battery voltage monitor sections.  The Schmitt trigger is incorporated to avoid relay chattering. It is designed for a window of about 1V. During charging, when the battery voltage inc...

Accu charger use a diac and triac

This circuit can be used to charge Accu and cells battery , the circuit can has a very stable output that would make the battery last longer  and maximize the added battery capacity. When charge was also quite fast , so it can optimize the time. A diac is used in the gate circuit to provide a threshold level for firing the triac . C3 and R4 provide a transient suppression network. R1 , R2 , R3 , C1 , and C2 provide a hase - shift network for the signal being applied to the gate. R1 is selected to limit the maximum charging current at full rotation of R2.

14 V battery charger circuit and troubleshooting

This circuit is also use operational amplifier IC LM324 to drive the VN64GA with the error signal and to control output voltage. This output voltage is pulsating DC , which is quite satisfactory for battery charging. This circuit also can be converted to the system regulated DC supply. You do this by increased C2 and anoother electrolytic capacitor is added across the load. The respon time is very fast, determined by the op amp. Schematic and troubleshooting below : If the circuit not work , Perhaps the cause of : AC cable disconnected Transformer is damaged or leaking.  Broken or leaky diode. Installation of inverted foot elco. Instrallation of the components of the upside , particularly on the transistor , examine the placement of the feet emitter , collector and base. IC damaged. Lead Acid Battery Charger Circuit Diagram

This is the simple Lead Acid Battery Charger Circuit Diagram. The above pictured schematic diagram is just a standard constant current model with a added current limiter, consisting of Q1, R1, and R4. The moment too much current is flowing biases Q1 and drops the output voltage. The output voltage is: 1.2 x (P1+R2+R3)/R3 volt. Current limiting kicks in when the current is about 0.6/R1 amp. For a 6-volt battery which requires fast-charging, the charge voltage is 3 x 2.45 = 7.35 V. (3 cells at 2.45v per cell). So the total value for R2 + P1 is then about 585 ohm. For a 12 V battery the value for R2 + P1 is then about 1290 ohm.  For this power supply to work efficiently, the input voltage has to be a minimum of 3V higher than the output voltage. P1 is a standard trimmer potentiometer of sufficient watt for your application. The LM317 must be cooled on a sufficient (large) coolrib. Q1 (BC140) can be replaced with a NTE128 or the older ECG128 (same company). Except as a charger , thi...

Solar LED Lantern with battery charger

This solar LED lantern can be used as an emergency light. Its 6V battery can be charged either from 230V, 50Hz AC mains or a 12V, 10W solar panel. Two LED indicators have been provided—red LED (LED1) indicates battery charging and green LED (LED2) indicates fully-charged battery. You can choose to charge the battery either from the mains power or the solar panel by using the single-pole, double-throw (SPDT) switch. The comparator controls charging of the battery. Pin 3 of IC2 is connected to the positive terminal of the battery to be charged through resistor R5. When the battery is fully charged, it st...

Serial Port PC Battery Charger Circuit Diagram

This is the Serial Port PC Battery Charger Circuit Diagram. This is one of the porters of the series "battery chargers that will never do." It uses the serial port of a PC to power a battery charger. A serial interface port can not supply enough current to charge batteries more powerful, but low capacity battery Nickel Cadmium (NiCd), this circuit is more than enough. You could, for example, use the batteries in a radio and charge them while using the PC.  The three serial port connections TxD, DTR and RTS, when not in use, are -10 V and can provide a current of about 10 to 20 mA. The circuit shown supplies a charging current of about 30 mA. If you need to change the polarity of the charging circuit, then it is a simple job, just reverse the diodes and use of software, change door signs to 10 V. Those interested can also write a software routine that automatically recharges the batteries. Serial Port PC Battery Charger Circuit Diagram

Adjustable Regulated Battery Charger

This battery charger circuit is regulated and adjustable to make this circuit able to charge the mosto NiCAD battery. This adjustable regulated battery charger circuit will work for single cell or multi battery cell which connected with series/parallel connection. The maximum voltage of the batteries should be 18V maximum. Power transistors Q1 and Q2 are connected as series regulators to control the battery charger ‘s output voltage and charge-current rate. An LM-317 adjustable voltage regulator supplies the drive signal to the bases of power transistor Q1 and Q2. Potensiometer R9 sets the output-voltage level. A current sampling resistor, R8 (a 0.1 ohm/5W unit), is connected between the negative output lead and circuit ground. For each amp of charging current that flows through R8, a 100mV output is developed across it. The voltage developed across R8 is fed to one input of comparator U3. The other input of the comparator is connected to variable resistor R10. As the charging volta...
