DC Motor

DC Motor / Direct current motor, as the name implies, uses a direct current is not direct / direct-unidirectional. DC motors used on the specific use where required ignition high torque or acceleration of the equipment for the range of speeds wide. Figure 3 shows a DC motor which has three main components : Pole field . Put simply illustrated that the interaction of two magnetic poles will cause the rotation of a DC motor. DC motor has a polar field stationary and the moving dynamo bearing on the space between the polar magnetic field. Simple DC motor has two field poles: a north pole and south pole. Line magnetic energy increases across the openings between the poles from north to south. For engines larger or more complex consists of one or more electromagnets. Electromagnet to receive electricity from outside resources as a provider structure field. Dinamo . If the inflow into the dynamo, then the flow will be an electromagnet. A cylindrical dynamo, connected to the countershaft to d...

DC Motor Speed Controller

This is the schematic diagram of DC motor speed controller circuit. The circuit applies two oscillators/timers which are connected as a Pulse Width Modulator (PWM). The timer chip which applied in this circuit will be an nmos dual timer/oscillator NE556. This timer IC has two 555 timers in a single 14-pin IC package. One 555 (IC1:B) is set up as an astable oscillator. The output frequency of the trigger pulses is specified by: f = 1.44 / ((R3 + 2R4)C2), or about 410Hz. The time period for the high output is specified by T HIGH = 0.69(R3 + R4)C2 seconds. And, the low output by T LOW = 0.69R4C2 seconds. The 2nd 555 (IC1:A) is set up for Pulse Width Modulation. It will be build in monostable mode. It is triggered using the continuous pulse train from the first 555 timer. Nevertheless, by also applying a DC voltage to pin 3, the comparator reference levels are going to be modified from their nominal levels of one-third & two-thirds of the supply voltage. This has the effect of modu...

Maximite Stepper Motor Interface Circuit Diagram

This simple circuit and program listing allows the Maximite microcomputer (SILICON CHIP, March-May 2011) to control a stepper motor. It could be expanded to allow for the control of multiple motors, with four of the Maximite’s external I/O pins used to control each motor with identical driver circuits. A ULN2003 Darlington transistor array (IC1) switches current through the stepper motor’s two windings in either direction. When one of the four Maximite output pins (8, 12, 16 & 20, corresponding to I/Os 19, 17, 15 & 13) goes high, the corresponding output pin on IC1 goes low, sinking current through a motor winding. Conversely, when these pins are high, the corresponding Darlington transistor is off and so no current flows through that portion of the winding. Maximite Stepper Motor Interface Circuit Diagram The centre tap of each motor winding is connected to a current source comprising PNP Darlington transistor Q1 and some resistors. The maximum current is determined by the res...

Stepper Motor Controller

Stepper Motor Controller Circuit diagram. Stepper motors are available in several versions and sizes with a variety of operating voltages. The advantage of this general-purpose controller is that is can be used with a wide range of operating voltages, from approximately 5 V to 18 V. It can drive the motor with a peak voltage equal to half the supply voltage, so it can easily handle stepper motors designed for voltages between 2.5 V and 9 V. The circuit can also supply motor currents up to 3.5 A, which means it can be used to drive relatively large motors. The circuit is also short-circuit proof and has built-in over temperature protection. Two signals are required for driving a stepper motor. In logical terms, they constitute a Grey code, which means they are two square-wave signals with the same frequency but a constant phase difference of 90 degrees. IC1 generates a square-wave signal with a frequency that can be set using potentiometer P1.  This frequency determines the rpm of t...

Stepper Motor Programming

Full Step Sequence: I am using PIC16F628A with uln2003 to drive unipolar stepper motor. Adjusting the delay will increase or decrease the speed of the motor. Here just for demonstration i have taken some delay, you can change it as you want. If you want to change the direction of stepper motor, just reverse the step sequence (means 9,3,6, and C etc).  Code: void delay(); void main(){    TRISB=0;            while(1){                 PORTB = 0x0C;                 delay();                 PORTB = 0x06;                 delay();                 PORTB = 0x03;                 delay();                 PORTB = 0x09;    ...

LMD18245 Bipolar Stepper Motor

Using the LMD18245 full-bridge power amplifier that incorporates all the circuit blocks required to drive and control current in a brushed type DC motor or one phase of a bipolar stepper motor can be designed various motor applications. The LMD18245 controls the motor current via a fixed off-time chopper technique. An all DMOS H-bridge power stage delivers continuous output currents up to 3A (6A peak) at supply voltages up to 55V. An innovative current sensing method eliminates the power loss associated with a sense resistor in series with the motor. LMD18245 Bipolar Stepper Motor Circuit Diagram This LMD18245 circuit application is a power stage of a chopper drive for bipolar stepper motors. The 20 kΩ resistor and 2.2 nF capacitor connected between RC and ground set the off-time at about 48 μs, and the 20 kΩ resistor connected between CS OUT and ground sets the gain at about 200 mA per volt of the threshold for chopping. Digital signals control the thresholds for chopping, the directi...

How to Select a Suitable Motor

Before Starting VFD take the following precautions When using the AC Motor Drive to operate a standard 3-phase induction motor, take the following precautions: The energy loss is greater than for an inverter duty motor. Avoid running motor at low speed for a long time. Under this condition, the motor temperature may rise above the motor rating due to limited airflow produced by themotor’s fan. Consider external forced motor cooling. When the standard motor operates at low speed for long time, the output load must be decreased.  The load tolerance of a standard motor is as follows:  Pole-changing (Dahlander) motor: The rated current is differs from that of a standard motor. Please check before operation and select the capacity of the AC motor drive carefully. When changing the pole number the motor needs to be stopped first. If over current occurs during operation or regenerative voltage is too high, please let the motor free run to stop (coast). Submersible motor: The rate...
